Prentiss & Carlisle, an 86-year-old forest management firm headquartered in Maine, on Thursday announced its acquisition of Upland Forestry, a regional leader in timberland management with offices in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

According to Donald P. White, president of Prentiss & Carlisle, the acquisition adds nearly 270,000 acres of timberland to the 1.5 million acres currently managed by P&C across the country and in Canada and opens the door to additional lines of business in the greater northeast.

“We welcome Upland’s highly talented employees to our company,” said White. “It would take a long time for P&C to build the kind of team we’ll be inheriting. Their knowledge and skills closely match those of our existing staff, and I anticipate an excellent fit and complementary working relationship.”

Upland Owners Joe Nelson and Don Tase, who will be joining the leadership team of Prentiss & Carlisle, said they viewed the acquisition as an excellent opportunity for their company as well.

“Our corporate culture fits in very well with Prentiss & Carlisle,” said Nelson, “and both Don [Tase] and I believe that our firms’ combined strengths and capabilities will benefit all of our employees and clients.”

In 2005, P&C acquired the Wisconsin-based consulting firm George Banzhaf & Company. According to White, that addition combined with the Upland Forestry acquisition now makes Prentiss & Carlisle one of the largest multi-regional management firms in the country.
